When should I choose a Celebrant?

Once you book your venue, it is a good idea to book your celebrant so that you can ensure they still have availability. The latest you can book is one month out as that is when you will need to submit the Notice of Intended Marriage.

If we meet, can I then decide not to go with you?

Yes of course! Your wedding, your choice, I have met with one couple who interviewed four celebrants before we met, and they picked me. Go with your gut.

Do I need to be an Australian citizen to marry in Australia?

No, anyone can marry in Australia, as long as they give the correct notice (one month) and are both consenting adults. There are exceptions, however: LINK

I want my friend/family member to marry me but he/she is not a celebrant, how can I do this?

I can work with your nominated person, so that I do the legal section of the ceremony and the paperwork; then they can speak for the rest of the ceremony. You can even say your vows with them, as long as I am there to witness it.

Can we get married anywhere?

Australian marriage celebrants can marry couples in any state across Australia. Now, the specific location is up to you: I have done weddings in backyards, beaches, parks, cliff-side, local halls ... the possibilities are endless. Please note that you may need to seek permission from the landholder, such as the council, before getting married in that location.

Will my name automatically be changed after my wedding?

No, I will submit your paperwork and should you require I will order you a standard BDM Marriage Certificate at a cost of $60 (Births, Deaths and Marriage flat fee). You can also order a replacement or commemorative copy anytime, via https://www.nsw.gov.au/topics/marriages/marriage-certificates

You can then take this certificate to the RMS, your banks, Services NSW etc., to have your name updated in their systems.

Do you have a PA system?

Yes I do, it comfortably does an outdoor wedding up to approx 100 people or a very large indoor space.

What will you wear for our Ceremony?

On my Ceremony information questionnaire I will ask you if there is something particular you would like, such as a colour theme or a costume. If you do not have special needs, my default is a plain black or navy dress.

Do I have to write my own vows?

No you do not, although I may encourage you to do it. They can be as simple or as long, as romantic or funny as you would like. I ask couples to send me their vows prior to the wedding so I can check that they are in line with each other's, and will provide some gentle feedback if, for example, one is very touching and loving and the other more down-to-earth or humorous. What you do with this feedback is entirely up to you.
